Freshly picked oranges up on the hillside

Living in a country like Nepal can be a dusty experience, but only in the city. Saturday just gone, I spent the day up on a hillside north of Kathmandu, at a place called Shivapuri Heights Cottage. LOVELY was the word that kind of stuck throughout the day, so I will keep that to describe the day.

This is a very relaxing and beautiful place on the hillside in Shivapuri National Park, run by an Englishman called Steve and his Nepali wife Neeru. They have created an oasis with all sort of trees, plants, fruit trees and flowers surrounding the cozy cottages and a spa. Cozy guest rooms and great food, just LOVELY!

New friends - new places
A couple of my new friends from the Kathmandu InterNations group, Subarna, Yeri and Cary had come up with the great idea to go to Shivapuri and they invited me along.

I am always keen to tag along to all these cool places and especially when it involves some walking and new scenery. I had checked out this place before so it was no question if I would come along.

The drive started pretty easy, we got some coffee and breakfast from the Farmers Market by Le Sherpa and then we drove out of town.
One thing I think I will never do in Kathmandu is to drive a car. I am so impressed by everyone driving as they are from a different world!
We got to this place where the road was so bad due to road works, and rocks and big holes were everywhere, and very steep on one side and the a bus comes! Subarna managed the car well and we were fine, but my sweat had already started breaking out from sitting in the backseat!

Cow cuddles
We got to the bottom of the hill and parked the car, and both me and Yeri, a LOVELY girl from South Korea with the most amazing stories, went straight to cuddle the cute calves that were sunbading in their front garden..

As you do.

Yeri trying to charm the little guy
Yeri is a very smart and entertaining girl from Seoul, with similar interests as me such as trekking, doing good, seeing new places and she also has a big love for animals.

She has the most exciting and funny stories to tell.. She has been herding naughty sheep in the Austrian hills living in a caravan with a natural toilet and shower.. herding runawaydonkeys in the forests of Croatia and Alpacas in Germany.. And the stories are material for the funniest comedies with the most outrageous details and events.

We started walking on this narrow road upwards and it went zigzag for a while and then we took off on a real trail where we had to use both hands and feet to get up on some rocky hillsides, and I started to wonder how the guests to this guesthouse actually get to this place.. it turned out we were on the wrong trail and finally we found the right way and got to walk up some pretty steps surrounded by lovely trees and flowers.

We arrived to these oasis in the mountain, salad and cabbage growing all over, orange and lemon trees, and all sorts of bushes and flowers. It was quiet and very relaxing.

The owner Steve took us on the tour and we could see the spa, the various rooms and cottages that you can rent.

Amazing lunch with the owners

Then it was time for a very nice lunch, some wine, coffee, masala tea and some freshly picked oranges. With the most amazing view. We easily chilled for the rest of the afternoon before we headed back to Kathmandu.

I am enjoying a conversation with the best views
